So today was one of my favourite days of the trip so far. It included lots of cite seeing, getting lost, shopping, meeting other people at night, and some more getting lost.Even though I slept real late last night, I was able to wake up in time for breakfast at the hotel – I was motivated to get up cause the breakfast was free. Anyways after eating a bit I decided to go off on my own to do some cite seeing cause both Yash and Peter were still asleep. Walking halfway to my first “attraction” I got a phone call from Soo at Pixelworks about something that was pretty urgent so I turned around and headed back to the hotel to send out a few emails. After that I headed back to where I was originally going. I went by some of the really nice buildings that were designed by the famous artist Gaudi and then I headed to the La Sagrada Familia, which is probably Barcelona’s most famous building. Its this church that has been under construction since 1882 and is still expected to take another 150 years to finish! It was very cool though and there are plans to make 1 of the future 13 towers on it the largest tower in the world. That tower is supposed to represent Jesus Christ. After that I headed to some other tourists locations and took some pictures and sat back and enjoyed the scenery. I came across a large group of old men though on the way who were playing some game that kind of resembled shot put, but I didn’t know exactly what it was. Anywho after that I headed to the Olympic site in Barcelona. Turns out I ended up going there from the wrong direction and after two hours of walking up hill I realized that I had no clue where I was. There were some real nice bird’s eye views of the city though. So then I continued to walk around mindlessly and eventually ran into some couple that spoke English. I asked them how to get to the Olympic stadium and they were like um you’re headed in the completely wrong direction…you probably wanna head back down hill and take the subway there! Now you might think I’m a real idiot for walking around for some many hours in the wrong direction, going higher and higher up the hills BUT the signs were really confusing!!! Anyways I walked back down and actually made it to within viewing distance of the Olympic stadium and the other Olympic buildings there. They were real nice but it probably would’ve been better if I had gotten to them like 2 hours earlier! After that Yash gave me a call and I decided to head back to the hotel to meet up with him. After slowly making my way back to street level I realized I again had no clue where I was. I walked around a bit and pathetically asked some people in Spanish where to go. Eventually I made it to one of the main roads and once I figured out how far from the city center I had actually gone I gave up and just took a cab back to the hotel. The cab ride was actually pretty cheap though. Then me and Yash headed out to do some more cite seeing. We went back to the Sagrada temple and went in and walked up the temple. The elevator wasn’t working that day so the walk was a little tiring especially considering how much I had already walked that day! It was worth it though, the view inside and looking outside of the temple was awesome. After that we headed towards the city center and did some shopping. Yash had some things to buy for his girlfriend and sister and I looked around for things for my family and for me. We actually ended up spending a lot of time shopping though! We then had a nice dinner and then headed back to the hotel to get ready to go out. We headed towards a pretty famous club named Space (there’s quite a few of them in Europe) but sadly the bouncers wouldn’t let us in – most likely cause it was just us two guys without any girls. The bouncers really had a bug up their butt though and they wouldn’t even tell us why we couldn’t go in. So now what to do? As we were waiting outside trying to think of what to do, Yash noticed that there was a group of people near us actually speaking English! We decided to talk to them and turns out they were exchange students. One of the girls was from Victoria, BC and the others were all from the UK. We decided to wait with them and hope we could tag along and get into Space. They were hoping to use their free passes to get in but turns out their little plan didn’t work out too well. We hung out with them and walked around the city and eventually headed to some of club/lounge called City Hall or something like that. We hung out there and had a pretty good time. By now it was around 5 am and Yash had to leave for his flight at 6:30ish and I had to drive to Madrid the next day so we opted to call it a night. We said bye to those exchange students and then headed back to the hotel. And that was pretty much the night. It was fun to FINALLY meet people I didn’t already know here in Europe, but it will definitely be harder to do when I’m out alone again after this. Maybe I should start hanging around the universities here and listen for people speaking English hahahaha. Anyways the day was quite fun and its too bad Yash is leaving cause I had a pretty good time with him here. We’re heading to Madrid tomorrow…I kinda wish I could’ve stayed in Barcelona for one more day though cause there were still quite a few places I had wanted to see. But one day I’ll come back here and visit…one day!
