Today we left Lyon and headed for Nice. This was probably our longest drive so far and of course as luck would have I hadn’t slept not very much from the night before in Lyon. Anyways we drove to Nice and I was in awe over the scenery there. I’m a big fan of Palm trees and Nice has tons! Much to my surprise our hotel was no regular hotel either – it was actually a resort! Very very nice place, especially for the price I got it for cause I booked it more than 3 days in advance. Right outside of the hotel you could see the Mediterranean sea, which was really nice. After settling in I actually got together with Lynn (from our elec eng. class!) and her cousin, Janine who were there for just that day. It was actually very fun hanging out with them and after exploring the city together for a little while we went on a little drive around. Without the aid of GPS we drove over to Cannes to see what it was like. We actually ended up making it somewhere close to Cannes’ city center on our own and stopped off near the beach there to see what it was like. The beaches in Nice are all stones whereas the ones in Cannes are all sand. It was getting sort of late after that so we headed back to Nice and again we made it back there without the GPS, with only a few wrong turns! I was so full of “confidence” that I decided not to use the GPS to drive back to the hotel. A few wrong turns here and there (Nice has especially confusing streets, many of which are 1 way) I accidentally ended up driving up some hill, which I later found out was a driveway! The road for this hill was incredibly narrow so I had no choice but to keep driving upwards, assuming there would be a way back down. Eventually I ended up at the gates to some nice house or some kind of big building. The gates were closed of course and there was no way to buzz and get them open cause it just had a password keypad. That’s when things got a little scary. Here I am on top of some hill and I have no way of driving back down…what to do! The only answer I could think of was reversing down all the way. Since the upramp on this was more or less straight I decided that was what I had to do. So slowly but surely I made it back down…it was a little freaky though especially since I could see how high I was. After that I gave up and turned on the GPS and made it back to the hotel. So that pretty much covers the day. It was very nice going out with Lynn and Janine and we had a real good time! Tomorrow I’m gonna look at all the nice things Nice has to offer.
