The last two days in Berlin

Well to put it bluntly – Berlin is an absolutely remarkable city!!! And since half the city is still under construction hahaha it’s only going to get better! Before I forget here are two interesting things I learned during my walking tour yesterday:
(1) The name Berlin has nothing to do with “bears” (though the city symbol is a bear) but in fact the name translates to ‘swamp city’ hahaha
(2) Berlin has the second highest number of people of Turkish descent in the WORLD (only next to Istanbul)…I thought that was pretty interesting, but didn’t really notice the high number of Turkish people because the city is really very diverse.

Anyways yesterday I went on a walking tour and did TONS of sight seeing and today I spent the whole day at Museum Island looking at the Greek and Islamic works they had there. I also was able to make it to a program at the Siddha Yoga center here again and they people were so friendly and again spoke in English (rather than German!) with me. As you can see I’ve uploaded TONS of pics below and those are just the best of the best so you can imagine how many pictures I have taken. In fact this is the FIRST city where I ran out of memory on my camera during the course of just one day of sight seeing (I didn’t even run out of space in Paris!). Anyways the walking tour I went on yesterday was AWESOME; we covered all the main sites in the city and also some of the not-so celebrated places like Hitler’s underground bunker during WWII and what not. The tour guide also gave wonderful explanations of everything and a great overview of Berlin’s very long history in recent years. I highly recommend anyone visiting Berlin to go on the “original berlin walks” tour. So yeah Berlin is very cool and so much of it is STILL under construction so it’s only going to get better and better in the coming years! The people here are great, the night life is awesome, and things aren’t too expensive here. So yeah Berlin rocks hahahaha. Anyways we head for Prague tomorrow…man it’s going to be weird getting used to speed limits on the highway again hahaha!
